The year is 1990, and community icon Edna Coffman, the current School Board Chairperson and just retired fifty-year English teacher at Pacer Coulee High School, is fed up with her beloved school fielding substandard sports teams who have recently been unable to compete with their conference rivals. In an effort to return the local sports fortunes to their former championship status, Edna manages to hire thirty-something’s Luke Carter and Madison Danielsen to the football and girls’ basketball head coaching positions at the small, rural town of Pacer Coulee, Montana. The unique-to-small town interactions are at the forefront in this engaging tale, and clearly demonstrate the close interconnections between school, sport and community in rural, small town America.
